CARIBBEAN SHOWCASE 2012!
I
always told myself that I would try new things and join different club. I was
always nervous on doing so, my sister and my friend was talking about the West Indian
Society club and how every year they put up a big show for everyone to come and
watch different talent such as dancing, singing, and model different clothing
from different country all around the world, which sounds fun and interesting. People come to watch you walk and if they like
you they would ask you to model one of their clothing pieces. Also you have different
organization groups that going to be there to donate money. Every dime we make
it will go out to build school for third world country kids and to build a
better education. At first I was like “no”
I wouldn’t be good enough and I don’t have any talent, my sister told me that
there not looking for people who have talent they looking for people who want
to be part of something and to have fun doing it. Making everyone come as a
group and put on a big show to help build school. So I went to the meeting they
was having, it went great we talk about different topic. We talk about how we
as society few boys and girls different. Also some negative way the societies
view us college students. I also went to one of the practice they were having
and I can’t believe I been put in to the show to model for one of their cloth.

I really didn’t know what I was getting
myself into but I know it would be fun to do. It is a club for the West Indian
students who have a common interest to raise cultural awareness and instill
diversity at Southern Connecticut State University. Also there a members of the West Indian Society also aim
to educate those not of West Indian descent in order to enrich their knowledge
on the various Caribbean Islands as we strive to learn the customs and tradition
of their cultures as well.
